Weekend in Springfield, IL

I really enjoyed my time in Springfield, IL weekend before last. I met a few kindred spirits at the Route 66 Film Festival and got to tour some of the Lincoln sites around town. The Lincoln Presidential Museum is amazing. Well worth the drive if you’re anywhere in the Midwest.

I’ve also been loving my new camera, the Canon Digital Rebel T1i. This is my first foray into the digital SLR market and the only thing I can think of is “What took me so long?” I’ve been able to take some pretty neat photos even though I still have much to learn. Thanks to Adorama (
www.adorama.com), I’ve acquired two lenses in addition to Canon’s kit lens, the 18mm-55mm zoom, which came with the camera. I bought a refurbished Canon 55mm-250mm zoom lens and a refurbished Canon 50mm f/1.8 lens for a combined total of $280. So a fairly small investment to get me started with my new hobby.

Here are some pics from the Lincoln Museum. That's John Wilkes Booth looking over Lincoln's shoulder. Kinda creepy. I pointed out this angle to some of the workers in the museum. Even they'd never really realized the situation. They said I had an artistic eye. Happy

I do have one critique of Springfield. On a Sunday morning, there is nothing open downtown for food. I mean nothing. Had it not been for a nice gift shop owner (I believe the store was called Tinsley’s Dry Goods), who dared be open on a Sunday morning and refer me to Tea-licious Café, I would have starved.

Tea-licious was totally cute and I had a great breakfast but sadly the owner said that she would be closing at the end of the month. “The economy finally got us”, she said. I know this sort of thing is happening in downtowns all across America and I’m not a Springfield resident but my heart still went out to them.

Here are some pics I took in Tea-Licious. I'm sure it will be missed...
